"Mimi was a little brown duck on the marina who used to jump on to my outboard engine and come knocking on my door for food. She was the friendliest of all the water birds and would feed out of my hand. She would also bring her ducklings for breakfast in springtime. I changed boats and jetty so I didn’t see her again, or maybe she’s the one who visits my new mooring, but she’s unable to get to the door. Tbh they all look the same! I only knew her because of her door knocking habit and little squeaks, not quacks. I painted Mimi in memory of the happy moments she gave me on sunny mornings. (The photograph is of her sitting on my ladybird engine) I chose that particular quote to accompany the painting as it’s a local saying to my home town - Lou
